Here are some of our victories at the local, city, and statewide level:
Helping to win space and funding to erect a new school building at the GregorioLuperonSchool in WashingtonHeights.
Engaging union and community parents and other immigrant advocacy and organizing groups in Brooklyn and Queens to promote better public schools in Queens Region 4.
Creating an “Immigrant Rights Platform”, that included local legislation (Intro.38 and Executive Order 41) to benefit immigrant workers in New York City and linking it to the Freedom Ride work in NYC.
Mobilizing immigrant communities to support the Immigrant Worker Freedom Ride. Participants organized by NYCPP filled 26 buses, which then proceeded to the October 4, 2004 Freedom Ride rally in New York City.
Holding the Immigrant Communities in Action: A Day of Dialogue event to continue expanding the local network developed in NYC through the Immigrant Worker Freedom Ride. The Day of Dialogue brought together 500 people in the immigrant and worker rights movement: including union members, community members, labor leaders, community activists and advocates, and religious leaders, creating opportunities to exchange ideas and strategies about local and city-wide campaigns, and promoting and protecting immigrant worker rights.
